What started out as a small life sciences company aimed at the development and supply of generic biological products, Therapeutic Proteins Inc. (TPI) has rapidly evolved to earn the title of leading GMP manufacturer for producing high-quality biological drugs at an attractively low cost. According to the Vice Chairman & CFO, Thomas Flynn, the company prides itself on it’s slogan, “Choose Compliance™.” So far, TPI is the sole company in the United States to manufacture globally recognized, FDA-compliant and BLA-certifiable biosimilar products, demonstrating their relentless commitment to quality standards, while at the same time, keeping it cost effective. This intensifies their competitive edge compared to similar life science companies, making them extremely viable in international markets. By employing dynamic, patented technological equipment such as the MayaBio®, TPI offers an unparalleled innovative and cost effective solution for the development and production of biosimilar products. TPI has designed scientific breakthroughs such as in-situ pegylation of proteins and backbone strengthening of monoclonal antibodies to create second-generation molecules with longer acting profiles and higher storage stability. As recent as a week ago, TPI filed patents on interconnecting bioreactors using gravity flow.

TPI is headquartered at the Technology Business Center in the University Technology Park. When asked about the reason behind the decision to set up at the Park, Mr. Flynn had nothing but positives to share. "The Technology Park is extremely unique in what the area has to offer - location in a metropolitan city like Chicago, a comprehensive transportation infrastructure, intricately designed office spaces, support services such as the student work force, and state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.” Mr. Flynn went on to add that the management at the Technology Park have always been accommodating and willing to work with their company to meet their design needs. “The space I occupy here is custom built. The management brought in specialists that our company wouldn’t have been able to afford on our own,” he said. Additionally, Mr. Flynn pointed out that interactions with similar biotech companies have encouraged them to innovatively adapt their technologies to build new products. Since its move to the Park last year, TPI has leased out an additional technology lab in the Park for further development and expansion.
