Dr. Jay Schieber, Director of the Center for Molecular Study of Condensed Matter
Dr. Jay Schieber is the Director of the Center for Molecular Study of Condensed Matter (µCoSM), an enterprise that takes an unconventional multi-dimensional approach to study the physical, biological, and mechanical properties of soft matter. Instead of taking a relaxed one-dimensional approach, this enterprising lab banks on comprehensive, multi-scale modeling and incorporates the composite findings of biologists, chemists, and physicists.
Formerly scattered in different academic buildings of the University campus, the center is now situated in the Technology Business Center (TBC) of the University Technology Park (UTP), allowing for opportune interactions amongst different disciplines, thus making it an innovative, top-of-the-line interdisciplinary research lab. "We were looking to integrate the work of our mechanical and chemical engineers, our biologists, chemists, physicists, and our applied math majors. The Tech Park was a perfect fit," says Dr. Schieber.
